Tuesday May 2
Today the target was Montezuma Quail. Everything else was secondary. We developed a "plan" last night. Before dawn this moring we changed the plan. As we were implementing the plan we changed it again. The change to the change to the plan worked. We started to look for the quail at 7 am and we had found them by 7:15 am. We were treated to long views of three birds at the edge of the parking lot at the top of Skyline Drive. We were five happy birders.
We retreated to a very enjoyable breakfast. Then we spent the rest of the day birding. We managed almost 100 species for the day.
