Update #5

Posted evening of Sunday April 30

Sunday April 30
Our last day in Big Bend. We decided to do the Window Trail to seek out the species we had missed in our previous days here. It is about a 5 mile round trip. It took us about 7 hours. Two and a half hours of that were spent perched on the side of a cliff staring at a flowering agave plant on the opposite side of a narrow canyon. Because of the drought this was the only flowing agave plant we have seen in three days. A female Lucifer Hummingbird was coming to it but was being driven off by Blue-throated Hummingbirds. It took us 2.5 hours to get a decent look.

We will have another night of owling tonight. The target tonight is Elf Owl. Last night we got awesome views of Western Screech Owl and Great Horned Owl.
We head to the Davis Mountains tomorrow. Total trip list is just short of 200 species.
