Update #3

Posted evening of Friday April 28

Thursday April 27
A great day of birding and traveling. We left Del Rio early this morning and spent several hours birding the Amisted Reservoir. Lots of good looks at waterfowl and shorebirds.

Then it was off to Big Bend. We made the obligatory stop at Langtry to take in the Judge Roy Bean Museum. We entered the park at about 5 pm and were at the lodging area by 6:45.
This is truly a spectacular place.

Friday April 28th
Our first full day in Big Bend National Park. We did a couple of hikes and birded Cottonwoods Campground. The highlight of the day was the Gray Vireo. A lifer for all five of us. Other high lights were Varied Bunting, Lucy's Warbler, Zone-tailed Hawk. We now have about 170 species for the trip. I am writing this as we wait for dinner. After dinner we are going out to do more birding. We are having a wonderful time.
