Ontario 2009 Update #3 Wednesday January 28th
We left Ottawa by 7am, heading for Algonquin and the night in Huntsville. It started to flurry as we pulled out of the parking lot. The snow got heavier and continued all day. We were supposed to be north of the storm but that did not seem to be the case. By 4:30 pm we had 4 inches on the ground as we arrived in Huntsville. And it continues to snow as this is written.
We got some nice birds at feeders (Evening Grosbeaks, Pine Grosbeaks, Redpolls, Pine Siskins, etc.) but birding outside the car was difficult. We took some of the traditional walks in Algonquin Park but in many cases cut them short because of the conditions. The birds seemed to be hunkered down waiting out the storm or at congregated at feeders. We encountered very few birds in the woods.
