Arriving
in Thompson
Report #4 was finalized at the Winnipeg airport as we waited for our flight to Thompson. It was posted to the website as soon as we checked in to our hotel. This report is being posted from Thompson on Thursday night.
Because we are unsure of the availability of an Internet connection in Churchill, this may be the last report posted while we are on the road. Nevertheless daily reports will be composed. If we are unable to post while on the road all reports will be posted ASAP our return on Wednesday evening June 16.
We left Winnipeg at 2:00 pm.fter an uneventful 90 minute flight to Thompson. Also on the flight was a Field Guides Birding Tour contingent. It was interesting comparing notes with them. We picked up a van and headed to our motel. By 4:45 we were out in the field birding. Things were slow but we did make a stop at the Thompson Zoo. This is one of the top three zoos in Manitoba. While they were caged birds, it was interesting to observe a Snowy Owl, a Northern Hawk Owl, a Great Horned Owl, and a Boreal Owl. Dinner at a local restaurant and a quiet evening at the motel. Tomorrow we are birding a couple of local provincial parks and then boarding the overnight train to Churchill.
