September 5 Day 1 |
After a mid-morning arrival in Los Angeles, we will bird down the coast toward San Diego. A major target for the day will be the California Gnatcatcher. At about 3:30 pm PDT we will meet Kaaren Perry at Crystal Cove State Park. Kaaren will share her local knowledge with us as we bird the coastal habitat. |

September 6 Day 2 |
We will spend the morning along the coast and out on Point Loma. If we have not seen the gnatcatcher we will make an attempt at Lake Hodges. We will spend the heat of the day driving to the Salton Sea arriving as the temperatures start to drop. We should be able to find Yellow-footed Gulls and other Salton Sea specialties on this day. We will do some owling after dark in Brawley |

September 7 Day 3 |
In the relatively cooler morning hours we will bird around the Salton Sea. As the day gets hotter we will leave the area and head north to the San Bernadino Mountains. If time permits we will visit the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. |

We will be at the dock at about 8:30 am for the 9 am departure to Santa Cruz Island, home of the Island Scrub Jay. We will be landing at Prisoners' Harbor, the "best" location for the jay. We will have plenty of time to hike and enjoy the island. We will depart the island at about 3 pm returning to the dock about 5 pm. . South to the LA area for our last night |
